Description
This campo del cielo meteorite is comprised of Nickel, Iron and other trace metals. It was discovered in 1576 by Spanish explorers in Chaco Argentina. Thousands of pieces have been found near the impact craters. The largest weighing an immense 37 tons. Scientists have estimated the date of the fall to be around 3950-5800 yrs ago based on radiocarbon dating of charred trees in the vicinity.
This specimen is a great example of this fascinating meteorite. It is clean and stable, and would make a great addition to any meteorite collection.
