Ammonites were prehistoric marine creatures related to the extant nautilus squid and cuttlefish family. They grew by adding chambers to their shell in a circular direction, they had a parrot-like beak for crushing their prey, they may have reached up to 6' in diameter at their largest. Ammonites can be found world wide, they date as far back as the Devonian period, (350 Million yrs ago)
